Every now and then I’ll listen to an entire album and be inspired, even in awe that good music still get’s put to wax in this age of sugar-coated pop culture. Res happened to me in a video for “The Say Vision” and I have since been hooked on the entire album. Res incorporates serious lyrics put over some wicked original beats and a genre all their own, this is a CD (or download) that you must get your hands on.
First thing that comes to mind is lyrics, wow real lyrics! The first track, Golden Boys (lyrics), is about the pop star life and how many become frauds in the process. Number two, They Say Vision (lyrics) is their most popular song to date (some heavy rotation on VH1 Soul), which has a nice soulful riff and again lyrics to think about. 700 Mile situation (lyrics) is 3rd up to bat and is the first “slow” cut on the CD, speking soulfuly about long distance relationships. The 4th track is the strongest, titled Ice King (lyrics)
The rest of the album is a musical treat in this boring time of new artists. There are 11 tracks in all, so even in day where CD’s have 24 tracks, 12 are these little :30 skits, Res wastes no time to get to the point and deliver.
Res’s genere is hard to pinpoint. Ususally soft and soulful R&B singing style with a more alternative type beat, Res is anything but ordinary, which is what makes Res special.
This is a must in anyone’s collection who demands originally and songwriting skills. She is on the MCA label which is kind of sad and the only negative of Res, because this is an artist and gorup that can make it on their own as indies.
